Confessions of a Boymom

Old Fashioned Blogger – Say Hi!

I’ve been longing to get back to blogging for years now – I am definitely what you would call an “Old Fashioned Blogger”. I started on Blogspot, had the cool “blinkies”, and I was so young I thought the world needed to hear what I had to say!

I still got it!

Of course, like any reluctant wannabe blogger, I’ve been researching other mom blogs and found this wonderful post by Diary of a Stay at Home Mom that I can use as an introduction back into blogging!

So here I am, get to know me and come say, hi, so I can read your thoughts on your blog!

1) How long have I been blogging and why did I start this blog?

I started blogging in about 2004. I had always wanted to be a writer, so this was so exciting for me to get my thoughts out into the world without the need for the discipline to write an actual book. I wrote about life as a single mom, and I also created the blog, Take a Stand For Mental Illness, which I was super-excited to be noticed by Easter Seals!

Life got in the way, but I picked it back up in 2010, when I got remarried to my best friend and had three more boys.

I began the original A Mom Outnumbered on Blogspot, just to share updates with family, and my parenting journey, but life got in the way, AGAIN.

2) How did I choose the name of my blog?

When I started the original, A Mom Outnumbered, I was pregnant with my third boy (my new husband’s first). Social media was just starting to boom, so I shared with my (few hundred) close friends on Facebook, what should my blog be called? I had never dreamed I would have more children (let alone 5 boys!). I will be forever grateful to my friend, Tanya, who came up with the name, and boy, did I ever become outnumbered in my home!

 3) What is my blog about?

My blog will be a buffet of family and life topics, from homeschool, to autism, to starting my own business as a stay at home mom. I’m really excited to finally get started!

4) Tell us a little about yourself and your family.

I am mom to five wonderful boys, ranging from 12 to 28 years old, and I get to be Nana to two grandsons, and one in heaven, and I have a beautiful daughter in law, who I adore! My husband and I met in 2009 and married in the hospital before I gave birth to our first son together, but that’s a story for another day.

5) A few of my favorite things (collections, things that make me happy, etc.).

First of all, I have ADHD (and suspected autism), so all shiny things makes me happy… My planner sticker collections weighs about 5lbs! Speaking of planners, if I go through a year only replacing it once, it’s a good year!

My pups make me happy, I have three, Freddie, Bolt & Archie!

6) What do you like to do in your spare time (hobbies, crafts, etc..)?

Hobbies are difficult for me. I love crafting, but I have that syndrome, the one where you are so afraid that it will turn out ugly that you don’t try? I spend a lot of time reading non-fiction, either biographies, self-help, or business, playing Sudoku, learning to play piano, and crocheting scarves for Scarves of Hope, which is a small group of volunteers who make and distribute scarves for those in need throughout the Omaha area.

7) What does your dream house look like? (Describe and/or include photo)

I would love a country-style home with a wrap-around porch! I don’t need a lot of land, as I’m pretty lazy and can’t keep up with gardening, but I would love a good porch!

8) If you could visit anywhere, anytime, where would it be and why?

I have never really had the travel bug. We didn’t travel much when I was growing up because I had horrible motion sickness. Since starting my business as an Executive Virtual Assistant for travel advisors last year, I have gotten to see the images of some beautiful lands that I’ve never dreamed of visiting. I think I’ve fallen in love with Hotel Bellevue Dubrovnik in Croatia! If I could ever get over my fear of flying over the ocean, this is where I’d want to go!

9) Would you share with us a favorite homemaking/organizing tip or recipe, etc..?

My best homemaking tip has more to do with parenting multiples. Our younger boys are what we call, Irish triplets. No twins, but they were all born 10 months apart from each other, within two years. So the fight for fairness can rage!

Our boys each alternate having a “day”. On their day, they take care of the dogs, help with laundry, basically do the chores for that day. This is so much easier than trying to split chores in threes!

10) Tell us something about yourself that we might not already know from reading your blog. (something unusual, etc..)

I mentioned my fear of flying over the ocean, but it’s caused by my fear of the water. I am not a strong swimmer, so the thought of swimming in the ocean terrifies me, and I’ve never actually seen the ocean in person. Even visiting North Avenue Beach in Chicago – looking out and seeing nothing but water, gave me so much anxiety!

11) Tell us a way God has blessed you and/or your family.

God has blessed my family over and over throughout the years. Through unemployment, three preemies, moving across country multiple times – He’s sustained us through it all!

12) Share any words of wisdom and/or a favorite quote you’d like to leave with us.

I will share my favorite Bible verse:

“I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”

John 16:33

This was such a fun way to jump into my new blog! Comment below and let me know where I can find your post about you! And I hope you’ll be back!
