Confessions of a Boymom

Happy Birthday, Freddie!

Today is my Freddie’s birthday!

My family has moved a lot through the last decade while our youngest boys were growing up. My husband is a contractor and in the pre-Covid days, relocation was common, as you had to work in the office each day. Being so far from family, and struggling to make friends, we liked to celebrate every way we could! Because our pets have become family, we started the tradition of family birthday parties for everyone’s birthday, including our doggos. Now, as soon as the cupcakes come in the house, the pups are ready to party!

Three years ago, on a whim, my husband agreed to just look at some puppies the day before my birthday. We went to a local pet store (I know, I know, adopt don’t shop, but I had at least look?)

Outside in a play yard, we saw a few huskies and a yellow lab all playing and running around. Rick said he would really like a husky, before getting a phone call.

I asked staff if we could meet the huskies, so they brought all the dogs in. I waiting with Rick outside and I could hear the huskies howling for some reason or another. I knew the howling would be an issue, and I had my eye on this yellow lab, so I went inside to see him quickly before Rick was done, and he was just beautiful!

I snapped this picture to send to Rick before he could come in and fall in love with the huskies. Freddie was so calm as I sat down on the ground, he licked my cheek and put his head on my leg. He had half a tail, that was just so adorable wiggle-wagging!

Needless to say, we fell in love with him and brought him home.

Little did I know, Fred was only chill after spending time playing with the other puppies outside. He was not the laid-back pup we expected, but that little tail is so cute!

But he fit right in!

Freddie became the sunshine of the family, lover of all living things, and he keeps us on our toes. He’s grown to be a whopper, and is the sweetest dog I could ever imagine!

I think he’s had too many cupcakes!
